Location: Indianapolis, IN
Size: 12,485 square feet
Rowland Design’s Indianapolis headquarters building began its life as an unassuming one-story nearly windowless forgotten office building. It’s prime location directly adjacent to the city’s Cultural Trail demanded much more from the existing real estate.
A complete second floor of studio space was added allowing expansive views towards downtown. The building’s entrance orientation was re-focused parallel with trail activity and energy. Fundamentally designed for efficiency and to enhance our design process, all spaces radiate from the two-story atrium hospitality lobby core. The first-floor houses conferencing and a library while the new second story is devoted to the design studio and business support staff.
Driven by functionality, both the interior and exterior consciously reference the construction materials used, contrasting the underlying structure with refined finishes. Exterior sunshades located above large glazing panels sustainably cut energy consumption while presenting a layer of depth to the façade and providing ever changing shade patterns during the day. Notable interior features include an in house engineered and fabricated movable wall panel system allowing a variety of conference room configurations.
