The City of Indianapolis was selected to host the 2012 Super Bowl. The design and construction of a new home for the Indianapolis Colts was the most anticipated project of 2007. Rowland Design, in conjunction with Design W Group, were the interior designers for the multitude of public and private suites. Integrated into the design was the re-enforcement of Colts branding resulting in a hip sophisticated state of the art environment.

“As in our previous home we again turned to Rowland Design to come up with something fresh and different for the suites in Lucas Oil Stadium. The end product was contemporary and classy, and the result was a lot of happy suite holders” – Pete Ward, Chief Operating Officer, Indianapolis Colts

Hoosier Park Racing & Casino required a major renovation to the existing grandstand primary building that houses off track betting, a food court, a buffet along with an exclusive steak house.  The mission was to enhance the user experience with energetic colors, create more efficient circulation, vibrant lighting and mobile gaming.

The creation of a talent attracting music and theater venue was also an important part of the design. Terrace box seating was also added affording guests’ full views of the track activity. New furnishings and directional signage were incorporated allowing a cohesive atmosphere.

This 10 million dollar renovation project for Indiana University, led by MGA Partners and Rowland Design, had four main parts: The Cinema, The Black Box Theatre, The Movement Studio, and the classrooms and offices. The cinema’s design challenge was to fit a state of the art THX surround sound cinema into the existing space (this required a larger projection booth to fit all of the modern equipment). The original fly loft floor was removed and reengineered to allow for heavy equipment to move sets to and from the existing loading dock. A new structure was added inside the existing space to allow for The Black Box Theatre and Movement Studio along with two sets of stairs and an elevator for proper access. In order to do this, the design team had to add an overbuild section to the upper floors, and remove and replace the entire roof. This project is to achieve LEED Silver certification.

In partnership with Ratio Architects, Rowland Design provided interior finish and furniture design for the phased renovation of the Butler University’s historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.  The essential goal of the project was to provide student athletes, staff and guests with modern amenities while maintaining the appeal of the existing period building.

Aesthetics for an important space named the Wildman Room were inspired by a 1928 yearbook, The Drift, which was the year the Fieldhouse was completed.  Notable features of the space include rich wood paneling, an Art-Deco bar along with a hand painted 1920’s style mural depicting life and times at the university.  A host of additional spaces throughout the building were also reconfigured and designed.

Awards:

Cook Cup for Outstanding Restoration for the preservation of Hinkle Fieldhouse
