Rowland Design worked with local NBC affiliated television station WTHR in the late 1990’s on the design of their reception, lobby and green rooms.  When it came time for a refresh, WTHR again turned to Rowland for a contemporary update.

The project objective was to conceive a clean, bright and modern space that referenced the company’s status as a regional communications leader. A New York City vibe is blended with a West Coast aesthetic to create a wow factor first impression to visitors.

Outdated elements from the 1990s plan were deleted allowing for a complete redesign of the reception desk and surround.  The fresh design accommodates today’s work approach, while keeping entrance security a focus.

Design elements reflective of the WTHR brand are incorporated throughout the project reinforcing the company’s commitment to the local community.  Our team reinterpreted the existing lobby artwork with a large scale illuminated design piece with WTHR and NBC iconography.  A local graffiti artist was commissioned to create a bespoke two-story mural depicting distinctive Indianapolis landmarks.

The goal of this collaborative project is to enhance student learning and engagement at the library.  The long wall along the window that once held 68 isolated, stationary study carrels incorporates design components reflective of the study habits and methods of today’s student. Research has shown that spaces that encourage collaboration and active participation increase the likelihood that learners will retain and be able to apply information later.

By using green and renewable materials and by drawing on natural themes in its design, the Learning Spaces project also is an expression of the campus commitment to the environment and sustainable practices.

Project completed in affiliation with CSO Architects, Maregatti Interiors and RJE Business Interiors.
