A white boxed space was transformed into a local pub capturing the comfortable atmosphere of the original location.  A host of materials including dark woods, brick, metallic ceiling tiles and paneled walls were used to provide a welcoming aesthetic.  Custom brass griffins were designed as supports for the bar foot rail adding an unexpected design element.  Other relevant features throughout the space were recreated antique lighting fixtures and concrete counters.

Rowland also provided experiential graphics for the client that included logo development and brand standards.

This unique and energetic espresso bar was designed as a ‘hangout’ for the entrepreneurial crowd who may desire getting a little work done while getting their java fix in a hip environment. The proprietor, a former barista herself, wished for a softer yet eye catching décor. A large scaled peony mural serves as a central focus in conjunction with a custom designed black and white tile floor. Curved red leather chairs further coordinate with the graphic mural while providing a colorful respite for Della Leva’s patrons.

Also incorporated into the project was the design of the logo and exterior signage, all developed to compliment the contemporary feel of the interior.  The playful bar name was created combining a family name and an Italian phrase indicative of machines used to make espresso.

Location: Wabash College | Crawfordsville, IN

Size: 700 square feet

Rowland Design converted a little-used formal lounge at the heart of Wabash’s campus into a restaurant and pub that provides an improved gathering space available to all students and faculty to foster community interaction.

The intent for this renovation was to use a minimal budget for maximum impact. Wall-to-wall carpeting was removed to expose the original hardwood floor which was lightly refinished. The ceiling was dropped to allow new lighting, wifi and ceiling fans, and was surfaced with prefinished wood flooring. A bar, complete with a solid wood top, was created at one end of the space and surrounded by handmade walnut stools created by a faculty member. A variety of seating/study options were created inside the space with elevated booths, a community table, lounge area and 4-top tables.

Historic photos and powerful quotes that are important to the members of the Wabash community were transformed into digital wall coverings by our experiential graphics team. These murals surround the space, working with the design to provide an environment that truly embraces the foundation and traditions of Wabash College.
